Policy Violation: Data Safety

How to fix: Data Safety Form Mismatch

Exact Email Message Received

"Your app has been rejected. The Data safety section in Google Play Console is inaccurate or incomplete compared to your app's actual behavior regarding user data collection and sharing."

Why did this happen?

Google Play enforces strict user privacy rules. This Data Safety rejection occurs when the answers you provided in the Data Safety form do not match what your app actually does behind the scenes.

Google uses automated code scanners to analyze your app. If they detect that your app (or a third-party SDK you installed) is transmitting user data, but you declared "No data collected", your app is flagged for deceptive behavior.

Common hidden data collectors:

  • Firebase Analytics: Automatically collects Device IDs and app interaction data.
  • Crashlytics: Collects crash logs and device information.
  • Ad Networks (AdMob, Facebook Ads): Collect location and tracking data to serve targeted ads.

How to fix it

The good news is that you usually do not need to change your app's code to fix this. You just need to update your paperwork.

How to update your Data Safety Form:

  1. Log into the Google Play Console.
  2. Scroll down the left menu to App Content.
  3. Click Start or Manage next to Data Safety.
  4. Update your answers to accurately reflect the data your SDKs collect. (For example, if you use Firebase, you must declare that you collect "Device or other IDs").
  5. Save the form and resubmit your app for publishing.
